Necessity is the mother of invention -unknown
Innovation is truly born of necessity but people often incorrectly identify their necessity. I'm often courted with ideas whose premise is, "Hey you're good/knowledgeable at A and there is necessity B so you should invent C! You'll be a millionaire!". I explain that I don't think invention C is sufficient for need B given my knowledge of A. They cannot be persuaded and usually dismiss my lack of interest as an inference that I am more interested in doing random thing D. They fail to accept that I am good/knowledgeable at A, which they themselves proclaimed. If they were good/knowledgeable at A, they would agree with my opinion. Innovation is born of necessity but knowledge & understanding is a prerequisite to necessity. You have to understand the dynamics of the necessity before you can attempt to innovate it. In instances like this, their necessity should not be necessity B it should be to learn about necessity B.
